The Shri Amarnath Cave Temple is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Hinduism, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, India, at an altitude of about 3,888 meters (12,756 feet) above sea level. The cave is nestled in the Himalayas and is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, accessible mainly during the Amarnath Yatra, held annually in the summer months (June–August).
Ice Shiva Lingam: The main attraction of the cave is the naturally formed ice lingam, which is believed to wax and wane with the phases of the moon. Devotees consider it a physical manifestation of Lord Shiva.
Religious Significance: According to Hindu mythology, it is the place where Lord Shiva revealed the secret of immortality (Amar Katha) to Goddess Parvati.
Pilgrimage Route: The traditional routes to reach the cave are from Pahalgam (about 46 km trek) or Baltal (about 14 km trek). Helicopter services are also available for easier access.
